Natural Playgrounds USA Logs and Stumps

Natural playgrounds bring kids back to nature. Installing logs and stumps on your play area is a great way reproduce woodland magic for your playground users.

We have five Certified Playground Safety Inspectors (CPSIs) on our staff. In our visits to natural playgrounds that use real logs and stumps made from trees, we have observed that these play items experience rotting and insect infestation over time. Also, they become very slippery when wet or moist. And it's very difficult to anchor wooden logs and stumps to the ground to prevent them from tipping or rolling while kids use them. For all of these reasons, we recommend that operators of natural playgrounds use artificial logs and stumps. This might seem counter-intuitive, but it gives the users of natural playgrounds all of the appeal of "green" play without any of the hazards.
